Katherine Marie Heigl, the American Actress was born on November 24, 1978 in Washington DC, United States of America. Her father Paul Heigl is a financial executive and her mother Nancy Heigl is a personal manager. Her nickname is "Katie"and was raised as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints A short time after her birth her family shifted to New Canaan, Connecticut and she spent a major part of her childhood there. Before shifting to New Canaan, her family had shifted to Virginia and then to Denver. Katherine Heigl is the youngest member of the family with three elder siblings Jason, John and Meg.

Katherine Heigl lost her older brother in 1986 after he suffered a brain injury in a car accident. After the death of her brother all his organs and tissues were donated. After this incident Katherine Heigl is one celebrity who promotes the importance of organ donation. Katherine Heigl had a very strict up bringing. She started her career as a fashion model. She started her career in modelling at a very early age of nine. At this age Katherine Heigl signed a contract as a child model with Wilhelmina a renowned modeling agency. It was at this time only that Katherine Heigl appeared in magazine advertisement and soon after this she appeared on television in a national commercial for Cheerios breakfast cereal. Soon Katherine Heigl started earning $75 an hour for her modeling sessions with sears and Lord & Taylor catalogs.

Katherine Heigl made her debut into the acting world in 1992 in a movie called That Night. She was also cast in Steven Soderbergh's Depression-era drama King of the Hill. After these appearances she made her debut in a leading role in 1994 in a comedy movie My Father The Hero. Katherine Heigl was still continuing her academic career besides her film and modeling career. She was still attending New Canaan High School. In 1995 she made a dramatic appearance beside Steven Seagal in the action thriller Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. Still Heigl continued her modeling career and kept on appearing in Magazines like Seventeen. In 1996 she appeared in the main role for the television film in Disney called Wish Upon a Star. In 1996, her parents got divorced and this was the year when her mother was diagnosed with cancer.

She started living with her mother in a four bedroom house in Los Angeles and made her mother her manager. In 1998 she featured in the re making of the famous Shakespeare novel the Tempest along with Peter Fonda. In 1998 she was again seen in the horror movie Bride of Chucky. Katherine Heigl continued appearing in magazines like Life, TV Guide, Teen and FHM. She also appeared in Maxim’s calendar. It was in 1999 Heigl started appearing on television in the science fiction TV drama Roswell. It was at this time she appeared in many films such as 100 Girls and Valentine. In 2001 she had decided to work on a television thriller ‘Ground Zero’. But the idea of this serial was discarded after the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 and it was remade in 2003 under the name of Critical Assembly.

Katherine Heigl appeared in 3 television movies in 2003. She also starred in the movie Evil Never Dies along with Thomas Gibson. She also appeared in Love Comes Softly. In October 2003 she was cast in film The Ringer beside Johnny Knoxville. She also starred in Romy and Michele : In the Beginning as Romy which was telecasted in 2005. In 2005 Heigl was casted in another movie “Grey’s Anatomy” which was a medical drama. Again this year she was cast for the movie Side Effects. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film Grey’s Anatomy. Knocked up was another movie which starred Katherine Heigl and this movie released in 2006. She has made it to the FHM’s"100 Sexiest Women in the World" list twice in the year 2007. On September 16, 2007 Katherine Heigl won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in the film Grey’s Anatomy. This 5' 9" tall actress smokes cigerattes. Katherine Heigl had a short lived relationship with actor Jason Behr, but in June 2006 she got engaged to singer Josh Kelley. She met Josh Kelley in the set of a music video for “Only You”. Her marriage date is fixed in December.
